     Follow-up / Sky Press:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the statements made by the extraordinary Islamic summit "did not affect" his government, claiming that a few countries intend to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The Islamic summit, which was held in Istanbul on Wednesday, took the decision to recognize the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

"These statements did not affect us. In the end, the truth will prevail. Some countries will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer its embassies to it," Netanyahu said in remarks on the sidelines of an event at the presidential palace in West Jerusalem.

He added: "Israel preserves the freedom of worship for followers of all religions in the holy city and we who deny this pledge in the Middle East and does not meet any other party; the other parties often fail and fail miserably."

"It would be better for the Palestinians to abandon extremism, accept this fact, and strive for peace."

The special summit was held at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, under his chairmanship, with the participation of 16 leaders and representatives of the OIC countries, concluding with the issuance of a concluding statement containing 23 items.

The final communiqué called on all countries of the world to recognize occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced his country's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its intention to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied city.
