    The Palestinian presidency suspended the United States decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem in May, saying that any unilateral step does not contribute to peace and does not give legitimacy to anyone.
    Spokesman for the Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeina, stressed that any steps inconsistent with international legitimacy would impede any effort to achieve any settlement in the region and create negative and harmful climates.
    He added that the speech delivered by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas before the UN Security Council a few days ago, based on international legitimacy, is the key to a serious and only peace to achieve peace and stability in the region and the world.
    "The achievement of comprehensive and just peace is based on adherence to the resolutions of international legitimacy and on the basis of the peace process based on the two-state solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders," he said.
    "The decision of the American administration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to choose the anniversary of the Nakba of the Palestinian people as a date for this step is a blatant violation of international law, international legitimacy, signed agreements and the destruction of the option of the choice of the Palestinian Authority," said Saeb Erekat.
