(Reuters) - Canada announced on Monday that it will grant Iraq a $ 200 million loan and $ 400 million in humanitarian aid as part of international efforts to stabilize the country.
In a press statement, Andrew Tierner, the Chargé d'affaires in Iraq, said in a press statement Tuesday that his government had started its long-term loans and assistance measures aimed at developing the work of local governments and strengthening the decentralized system of state administration. Providing food and medical supplies and supporting mine clearance and war clearance efforts.
He called on the Iraqi government to simplify the registration procedures of international companies to help accelerate the development process, noting that Canada has supported Iraq for $ 180 million within the initiative of the Canadian strategy to support Iraq, which began in 2016.
He declared his country's intention to open an office in Baghdad to grant visas and commercial representation, "because Iraq has many opportunities to attract companies and investors through the factors of religious and cultural diversity that resembles Canadian society."
Iraq recently received several loans to finance military operations against the promotion and promotion of peace in liberated areas and the removal of war debris and mines, while specialists say that these loans will tie the Iraqi economy and will show their effects in the coming years.
Warnings rose from the rise of Iraqi debt to high levels after reaching the threshold of 130 billion, with different estimates between experts and members of the Committee on Economy and Investment, while the Iraqi government is silent on the real figures and refuses to declare explicitly.
