This is my opinion Only!, I think the Only reason they would need a 50,000 dinar note is if they did not intend to RV any time soon!, what we want to see is smaller denominations, the largest note the U.S. still prints is the $100 dollar bill, from Dec. 18,1934 to Jan.9,1935 we printed a $100,000 dollar Gold Certificate, this was only used between Federal Reserve Banks, we also had a $10,000 dollar bill, a $5,000 dollar bill, a $1,000 dollar bill & a $500 dollar bill, most of these were gold certificates taken out of circulation a long time ago, I have a friend in N.C. that is a millionaire & has a $10,000 dollar bill which is a gold certificate that he showed me years ago, there are only a few left in circulation & Very Valuable!, you can see the complete history of these bills at Wikipedia, pretty interesting!

True but, they claim the 50,000nid at the same time as the coin (lower denoms) which for my opinion is to add another bill to the International trading circuit vaults and, never think that the USA doesn't print this or that, they just may not be putting it in circulations only. Printing a 50,000nid at this value for circulation makes no sense at all.. ;)

actually the bureau of printing and engraving (the folks out in blue mound texas and washington d.c.) who are charged with printing our currency still in fact print a 1,000.00 and 500.00 note. the are hard to find in most banks and can only be had if requested. but they are out there. a lot of people, bank employees included think there are no more simply because they have never seen one.

Exactly fonzi, in the late 80s to early 90s the bank use to pay me with the $1000.00 note if I wanted from cashing checks with my business so yes, they are still out there and only at face value... ;)

Here's the funny (sad) part - as you said, "only at face value"....  If you had a $1000 bill in the sock drawer and pulled it out to buy something, you would only get "a thousand dollars" worth of whatever you bought. if you however took it to a coin shop or collector, you would get somewhere between $1700 and up, as much as $33,000 for a 1928 $1000 note issued in Boston, in good condition. http://www.highdenomination.com/Thousand.asp

But Neno, you referrenced having them in your hands as a young man - Me too, but I only remember them commonly available from the banks up until about '78. That same $1000 bill held in the late '70's will only buy the equivalent of about $300 worth of 1970's goods at todays market.

Don't worry, they'll print more $100's to make up for it.....  LOL
