A huge fire caused by low humidity and high temperatures raged Saturday in the state of New Mexico (northern United States), forcing villagers to leave their homes, fire officials said.
A fire warning on a fire site in New Mexico said that the fire in the state's Colfax province was not contained after it doubled on Friday, infecting more than 16,000 acres near the village of Semaron, home to 1,100 residents.
The site said the fire came on 14 buildings attached to a nearby scout camp that had been evacuated.
Officials issued a mandatory evacuation order on Friday in Semaron after the fire threatened about 300 homes.
"The village of Semaron is still safe, continue prayers for our village," said Laura Gonzalez, a member of the Simaron village council on Facebook. The main cause of the fire, which broke out on Thursday, was not yet known[/ltr]
