A US judge orders the arrest of the former president of the Trump campaign

) - Paul Manavort, former president of President Donald Trump's campaign, has been jailed by a federal judge on Friday after his bail request was rejected in a charge of manipulation and trying to influence court witnesses.
The decision of Judge Amy Berman came after prosecutors accused Manfurt and an unnamed partner of tampering with potential witnesses in the case of Russia's intervention in the presidential election that ended with Trump's victory at the end of 2016, the Associated Press reported.
Investigators following Robert Mueller, the special investigator for the Russian intervention case, said that Manfort tried to communicate with witnesses to influence their reporting on his work in lobbying and tax evasion groups, according to media reports.
Manafort is the first official in the Trump campaign to be jailed as part of investigations into the Russian intervention in the US presidential election.
Manavort will remain in prison while awaiting two trials in the next few months, facing several criminal charges related to his Ukrainian political work, and passing money through the system of external accounts, known as "offshore".
