KUWAIT, July 7 (KUNA) - The Kuwaiti cabinet discussed on Saturday the possible economic repercussions in the event of an escalation of tension in the Strait of Hormuz following Iranian threats to close the strait.

"The Cabinet will discuss in its next meeting the most important preparations for any possible economic emergency, especially after the Iranian threats to stop the supply of oil and traffic in the Strait of Hormuz," the newspaper "Al-Qabas" said on its website.

For his part, US Central Command spokesman Bill Urben responded to Tehran's threat to close the Strait of Hormuz and to prevent the passage of oil shipments in the strait if Washington banned Iranian oil sales, saying, "The US Navy is ready to guarantee free shipping and trade."
