Saudi Arabia has filed a memorandum of protest with the United Nations against the frequent violations of Iranian boats and boats by Saudi Arabian waters in the Persian Gulf, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The memo pointed out that the Iranian violations affect the restricted areas of oilfields and platforms located in the waters of the Kingdom in the Arabian Gulf according to the maritime boundary line, which was appointed under the agreement between the two countries in 1968.

Saudi Arabia called on the Iranian government to stop these abuses.

The Saudi delegate to the United Nations, Abdullah al-Maalami, said that despite the protest notes addressed to the Iranian government and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the infringements carried out by Iranian boats are increasingly repeated in the waters of the Kingdom and the prohibited areas of oil rights declared on their coordinates and shown on the navigational maps Which lies in the Kingdom's territorial sea and its exclusive economic zone in the Arabian Gulf.

He said that as a result of these repeated violations and violations of Iranian boats and boats, including the events of November 2016, October and December 2017, the competent authorities in the Kingdom to take the necessary action against such abuses and abuses, in accordance with the regulations in force in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Moallemi stressed that the government of Saudi Arabia holds the government of Tehran fully responsible for any damage that may result from these infringements.

Al-Maalmi requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to circulate this memorandum to all Member States as a United Nations document and to publish it in the next edition of Law of the Sea.
