Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took part in a summit of the Baltic States in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, on the first visit of an Israeli prime minister to Lithuania, where the summit discussed ways to strengthen relations between Israel and the Baltic states.
"The Baltic summit, which Prime Minister Netanyahu attended for the first time, was just concluded with great success and the prime ministers agreed to hold it next year in Jerusalem," a statement issued by Netanyahu's office said Friday.
"Prime Minister Netanyahu participated in a summit of prime ministers of the Baltic states, Prime Minister of Lithuania, Prime Minister Maris Konstancis, and Prime Minister Yuri Ratas of Estonia," the statement added.
"This is the first time an Israeli prime minister has been invited to attend the Baltic summit, as this is the first visit by an Israeli prime minister to Lithuania."
"The summit will be held at the Lithuanian National Library in Vilnius, where a prime minister's meeting and a broad meeting with the participation of delegations will be held."
The statement stressed that "the summit dealt with the strengthening of relations between Israel and the Baltic States and the expansion of cooperation between Israel and those countries in many areas, Israel attaches great importance to the development of relations with another European bloc."
Netanyahu met with Lithuanian President Dalia Gribaiska, at the presidential palace in Vilnius, and noted at the outset that the visit was an unusual visit for him. And carries great historical significance, in terms of Jewish history and the history of his family, where the father of the grandfather of Netanyahu left Lithuania
