The leaders of the Czech Republic on Wednesday approved the transfer of their country's embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, becoming the first European country to take this controversial move after the United States, Guatemala and Honduras.

In a joint statement issued today, Czech President Milos Zyman, Prime Minister Andrei Babic, Speaker of the House of Representatives Radek Fontratchek, Foreign Minister Jan Gamschik and Defense Lubomir Mitnar stressed that the opening of the "Czech House" in Jerusalem next November will be the first step In the plan to transfer the country's embassy to this city.

"The Czech House will include Czech government institutions, including the Foreign Ministry, the Trade Agency and the Tourism Agency," the spokesman for the Czech presidency, Erejevac Ogaczyk, told AFP. "The right-wing politician was calling for the embassy to be moved to Jerusalem even before Taking the United States this step, this "house" will open during his scheduled visit to the Jewish state in November.

The decision by US President Donald Trump late last year to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the United States and the transfer of the Embassy of Washington to the escalation of tension in the Holy Land, where Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected any American mediation between the parties to the conflict.
