NEW YORK (Reuters) - The United States and China imposed new tariffs on goods exchanged between them on Monday as the world's two largest economies showed no sign of retreating from a deepening bitter trade dispute that has strained financial markets, Reuters reported.
US tariffs on Chinese goods worth 200 billion dollars and China's reprisals on US products worth $ 60 billion began on Monday.
Chinese products, which the United States has imposed on, ranged between vacuum cleaners and Internet-connected devices, while US goods targeted by China included liquefied natural gas (LNG) and certain types of aircraft.
Although a senior White House official said last week that the United States would continue to communicate with China to find a positive way forward, neither side was willing to compromise.
Both countries had already imposed tariffs on goods for other countries worth $ 50 billion earlier this year.
Economists warn that any protracted conflict will eventually disrupt growth not only in the US and China, but across the wider world economy.
