The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash on Sunday denied any connection to his country in the attack on Saturday in the Ahwaz region of Iran that killed 29 people, accusing Tehran of "incitement" against his country.
Tehran accused a "small Gulf state" that it did not mention by name of being behind this "terrorist" act.

Twenty-nine people were killed in Ahwaz, the largest city in the mainly Arab province of Khuzestan, when an armed group of four men fired on Saturday morning at a crowd attending a military parade, according to official figures.

"Official incitement against the UAE inside Iran is regrettable and escalating following the Ahwaz attack in an attempt to vent localization," Gargash wrote in a tweet on Twitter.

According to Gargash, "the historic position of the UAE against terrorism and violence is clear and Tehran's accusations are unfounded."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the UAE charge d'affaires in Tehran to inform him of "a firm protest against the irresponsible and insulting statements made by an adviser" to the UAE government.

Tehran did not specify the name of the UAE official or where he made his statements.

"The UAE government will bear the responsibility of (...) any blatant support for terrorism by individuals associated with it," Tehran warned.
