The United States has said it will continue to allow work on three projects for peaceful purposes in the Iranian nuclear sector, which will allow the agreement to be signed in 2015, which Washington has withdrawn from after it has strongly criticized it.
The agreement reached by Washington and other major powers with Iran to prevent Tehran from acquiring the atomic bomb does not prohibit Iran's nuclear program, but it places it in a very strict framework to ensure that its civilian and peaceful character remains without military purposes.
But the administration, led by Donald Trump, considered the text too lenient and withdrew from it in May, gradually re-imposing all economic sanctions lifted in 2015, even the latest package imposed on Iran's oil and financial sectors on Monday.
On a parallel line, the State Department warned Monday in a statement that "as of today, any nuclear cooperation with Iran will be subject to sanctions," but gave "exceptions" to projects related to the Iranian nuclear nuclei were already underway.
The projects concern the heavy-water reactor in the city of Arak, which has been modified under the supervision of the international community to make the production of weapons-grade plutonium impossible at Iran's only nuclear power plant in Bushehr, where Russia has built a nuclear reactor and started work for another reactor and underground enrichment site in Fordo.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that it would allow "these projects to continue under very careful supervision to ensure transparency and to maintain restrictions on Iran."
"This oversight reinforces our ability to contain the Iranian program and keep pressure on the regime at a time when we are still calling for a stronger new agreement."
The ministry noted that these exceptions were "temporary" and depended on "cooperation between different actors".
Despite the withdrawal of the United States, other signatories to the agreement (France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China) pledge to do everything in their power to maintain it and so that Iran will not withdraw from it. International inspectors have repeatedly confirmed that Tehran is denying its obligations under the agreement.
