An expert in the province of Basra, Tuesday, that the rail link between Iraq and Kuwait will lead to the killing of the port project Faw, and deprives Iraq of financial revenues and the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

The professor of economics at the University of Basra, Nabil Jaafar al- Marsoumi said in an interview for Alsumaria News, "The project linking the rail between Iraq and Kuwait, which was reported by President Barham SalehIs closely related to the establishment of the port of Faw, which began work during 2010 and is still in its initial stages, "noting that" the importance of the port of Faw is increasing when the establishment of the dry channel for the transport of land by truck and railways from Iraqi ports to Turkey, Where Iraq becomes the port of Faw and the dry canal to the corridor of international trade, while the rail link with the State of Kuwait makes Iraq a corridor for the trade of Kuwait only.
Al-Marsoumi pointed out that "the port of Faw brings significant financial revenues to Iraq from customs duties and transit fees of goods and other services, while the rail link with Kuwait gets Iraq only on the traffic charges of goods," adding that "the rail link means the killing of the port of Faw, Great financial revenues, the loss of tens of thousands of jobs, and this linkage if achieved is a step not in the right direction. "

President Barham Saleh called on Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al - Ahmad Al - Sabahto "work on establishing new transport routes and railways to strengthen economic and cultural relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples." Her desire to make a skate with Iraq.

The governor of Basra, Asaad al-Eidani, tried to contain the popular objections raised by the statements of the President of the Republic, saying that "everything related to the rail link between Iraq and Kuwait is nothing that should not take more space than its size, the project falls within the view of Kuwait in 2035, Should be for passenger transport only, and not be before the establishment of the port of Faw.
