Some governments to this day disrupt the Internet and restrict it for a variety of reasons, the most important of these reasons are linked to the reduction of opposition and suppression of freedom of expression.
According to data from Access Now, which was transmitted via Vice News, India saw 154 Internet segments between January 2016 and May 2018 and ranked first in the world, causing heavy economic losses.
In many countries, the reasons for the disruption include precautionary measures such as electoral processes, examination periods, threats to national security, rumors and others. In other respects, the disruption is linked to services, applications and sites only, and the reason is sometimes linked to technical difficulties only!
Arab countries Syria and Iraq were among the most countries in the world where there were cases of disruption of the Internet, while Egypt was the third Arab and tenth globally by only 3 pieces during the period mentioned in the infographic.
Interestingly, the number of deliberate interruptions has increased over the last three years.
