Jordan begins to impose customs duties on Turkish goods as of today

The Jordanian government will begin to impose customs duties on goods imported from Turkey as of Thursday after Jordan informed the Turkish side in May of the suspension of the free trade agreement signed between the two countries.
According to the newspaper "Al Ghad", it is expected to impose a customs tariff ranging between 15% and 30% by product, while the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to the chambers of industry and trade in Jordan that the free trade agreement with Turkey will become ineffective from today.
The circular stipulates that the Jordanian customs tariff applicable to the Kingdom's imports from the Republic of Turkey and the application of customs duties on imports to the Kingdom will be amended.
Jordan and Turkey signed a partnership agreement to establish a free trade area in December 2009, to enter into force on March 1, 2011.
Official figures show that Jordanian exports to Turkey have declined, as imports from Turkey are rising.
Jordan decided to cancel the agreement as it did not achieve the desired results of the Jordanian economy in terms of that there was no proportion between the increase of Jordanian exports to Turkey compared to the volume of large imports from Turkey.
