Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday the delay in launching a military operation against Kurdish forces in the areas of eastern Euphrates in Syria.
"We have no ambitions in the Syrian territories, but our position is clear on the terrorist attacks targeting Turkey from those lands," Erdogan said.
"Our priority is to ensure the security of the region, and the steps we are taking, both with Russia and Iran, aimed at achieving security," he said.
"My telephone conversation with Trump and the contacts of our diplomatic and security apparatuses, as well as the recent US statements, have prompted us to wait for a while, but it certainly will not be an open period," the Turkish president said.
Erdogan said that "the plans of our new military operations in Syria will be applied on the ground in the coming months," saying that "we will cleanse Syria of the Kurdish insurgents and the seeds of a sympathetic."
