    The Saudi prosecutor has held the first session of the Criminal Court in Riyadh for those convicted of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Press Agency reported Thursday.

    The prosecutor's statement confirmed the presence of 11 accused, calling for the imposition of "legal punishment against them," and the execution of 5 of them; for involvement in the crime of murder.

    According to the statement, all the defendants were allowed the time they requested, after receiving a copy of the lawsuit, to answer what was stated therein.

    The Saudi Attorney-General confirmed that he had sent two memoranda to the Turkish Public Prosecutor's Office, but confirmed that he had not received any answer on Khashoggi's case evidence.

    "We are still waiting for Turkey to provide us with what we have requested."

    The Turkish Minister of Justice has confirmed that Saudi Arabia did not provide the necessary support for Ankara in the context of investigations in the Khashoggi case, and remained silent on Turkish demands.

    As long as Ankara demanded its counterpart Riyadh to extradite the accused to kill Jamal Khashoggi to be tried in Istanbul, the scene of the crime, which is rejected by Riyadh.

    A statement by the Saudi Attorney General said last October that of the 21 detainees on the case, "11 were charged and the criminal case brought against them, and the case was referred to the court, while investigations continued with the rest of the detainees to reach the reality of their status and roles "He said.

    The prosecution also demanded earlier "to kill and order the murder of five of them, and to impose the legitimate penalties owed by the rest."

    At the time the names of the defendants were not disclosed, on November 15, 2018, the Public Prosecutor's Office denied the suspicions of Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

    In response to a question about the possible involvement of the crown prince in the crime, a prosecutor at a press conference in Riyadh said former deputy intelligence chief Ahmad al-Asiri ordered Khashoggi's return to Saudi Arabia and that the head of the negotiating team at the crime scene ordered him to be killed.

    Khashoggi's murder at the consulate in Istanbul in early October provoked international outrage and after Riyadh presented conflicting interpretations, it was confirmed that the body of the Saudi journalist was killed inside the consulate after negotiations failed to persuade him to return to the kingdom.
