Saudi Arabia has the world's worst record of religious and civil liberties and women's rights, the Guardian newspaper reported on Saturday, noting that Saudi Arabia is worse than Saudi Arabia.
"Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has the worst record in the world when it comes to religious and civil liberties and women's rights," the newspaper said in its editorial, published by the BBC.
"It will not change much if the 82-year-old Saudi king, who is seen as a conservative figure, is really in charge of governance in the country, but he is old and does not run the country," he said. Saudi Arabia's policy has been leading since he ascended to the throne four years ago. His son was Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"The prince has certainly reversed the situation: he launched wars abroad and sparked a crisis with Canada because of concerns over human rights in the kingdom, and apparently ordered the horrific murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey."
After striking a number of examples to support its arguments, the newspaper concludes that the new Saudi Arabia is not the old Saudi Arabia itself, but worse, and last year it sought death sentences for dissidents who were not accused of committing acts of violence.
"If the Saudi family wants to be more liberal and modern, they need to retreat from such reactionary and repressive policies, otherwise they will not reform the kingdom, but simply reproduce its old image," the paper said. Ending / 25
