Agriculture spokesman reveals the reasons for the entry of imported crops covered by prevention

On Tuesday, 22 January, 2019, Ministry of Agriculture Spokesman Hamid Al-Naif confirmed that the Ministry had decided at earlier times to prevent the entry of imported crops to the abundance of local produce.
Al-Nayef said that "in the light of the abundance of the local agricultural product and according to the book of the Council of Ministers / Committee on Economic Affairs, which provided for the prevention of the entry of goods covered by the ban according to the agricultural calendar, it was approved to prevent the import of tomato crop and from all border crossings and as of 2018 / 11/18 ".
He stressed that "the prevention process came as a result of the abundance of local product of this crop," noting that "the policy of the Ministry is to protect the local product and consumer protection on the other and through the application of the agricultural calendar, as well as data from the directorates of agriculture, Or the scarcity of the local agricultural product. "
He stressed that the Iraqi border crossing points are not controlled and far from the control of the state and thus witness the entry of trucks loaded with agricultural crops from different countries.
He called on all border ports to impose the rule of law and comply with state decisions to prevent the entry of imported agricultural crops in order to protect the local product.
