Twilight News / The Daily Telegraph published an article by Rafiq Sanchez, its correspondent in the Middle East on the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
"Even if Saudi Arabia succeeds in overcoming the file of Khashoggi's assassination, it still faces the charges of arresting and torturing feminist activists who have been advocating Saudi women's right to drive," Sanchez said.
The writer referred to reports about alleged calls between Saudi Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his aides in which the prince threatened to "shoot a bullet" at Khashoggi. Sanchez said that "these calls in the case of confirmation will be a direct evidence linking Ben Salman plans to assassinate Khashoggi."
Sanchez said that "this evidence will refute the story of Saudi officials who deny bin Salman's knowledge of the matter," adding that "the White House still supports the prince, 33, who is the de facto ruler, despite the previous CIA report Concluded that he ordered the assassination of Khashoggi. "
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo presented Congress with the latest information on the investigation into the killing of Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his consulate in Istanbul, a State Department spokesman said.
"Minister Pompeo presented to Congress on Friday the latest information on the investigation into the killing of Khashoggi," the spokesman said without elaborating.
Congress gave President Donald Trump's administration until Friday to report on who was responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and whether Washington would hold his killers accountable for sanctions.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump refused to inform the Senate of his administration's position on the Saudi Crown Prince's alleged involvement in the murder of journalist Khashoggi.
"We regularly consult with Congress after the death of Jamal Khashoggi on Oct. 2. We can confirm that the State Department provided information today and we will continue to consult with Congress and work to bring the perpetrators of this murder to justice," the White House Press Secretary said.
The New York Times reported on Thursday that a year before Khashoggi's death, the Saudi crown prince told one of his aides that he would use a "bullet" against Khashoggi if he did not return home and stop criticizing the government.
The newspaper quoted current and former US and foreign officials familiar with intelligence reports as saying that the Crown Prince's remarks to a senior assistant in 2017 were before Khashoggi's death last October at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on Friday he had told US media that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had not ordered the death of Jamal Khashoggi.
Al-Jubeir refused to comment on the New York Times report, saying "this report is based on unknown sources, and we know that Khashoggi's killing was carried out without permission.
An investigation led by the United Nations High Commissioner for Extrajudicial Executions on Khashoggi's killing said the evidence referred to a brutal crime "planned and carried out" by Saudi officials.
