US House Speaker criticizes Trump candidate for World Bank presidency

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has confirmed that Donald Trump's nomination of Treasury Secretary David Malbas to head the World Bank threatens to "undermine the institution's mission."
Former Liberian Public Works Minister William Gayd Moore commented on Mr Malbas's nomination, saying via Twitter: "He will become a stubborn fire inventor now as fire chief."
Melbas's many criticisms of the Washington-based World Bank are echoed in several circles. Many activists have called for reforms to the World Bank because of a series of human rights failures and scandals.
Critics point out that his projects have often led to the deterioration of the conditions of the poorest groups in the world and have damaged the environment or established the power of politically powerful elites and tyrants. They may have agreed with Malpas in 2017 when he said the international financial institutions "spend a lot of money" but are "largely ineffective".
He confirmed in testimony before Congress that these institutions are "usually corrupt in their lending practices and do not benefit people" in the countries concerned. When asked to provide examples, he referred to the situation in Venezuela and South Africa, which were not included in World Bank programs. Ending / 25
