The administration of President Donald Trump has set aside about $ 8 billion in government funds that the president could use this year to complete his proposal to build a fence along the border with Mexico, according to a national emergency plan , a senior White House official said Friday .

"In addition to $ 1.38 billion of a bipartisan funding project, the administration will raise funds from other government agencies, including the Treasury and Defense Departments," White House chief of staff Mick Mulvani told reporters.

Democrats are expected to oppose Trump's state of emergency as an unconstitutional attempt to fund the fence without congressional approval.

(AFP) - US President Donald Trump on Friday declared a state of "national emergency" in an attempt to complete the financing of a border wall on the border, saying he would "stop the invasion of his country."
Trump told a news conference at the White House in Washington that the wall, which will be built on the Mexican border, will stop illegal immigration to America.
"We will face the security crisis on our southern border," he said, in a bid to stop the entry of drugs and criminals into our country.
Trump's expected move came after he failed to reach an agreement with Democrats on the financing of the wall, which led to the longest government closure in US history recently.
For his part, a senior White House official said the Bush administration has identified about $ 8 billion in government funds that the president could use this year to complete his proposal to build a fence along the border with Mexico in accordance with a national emergency plan.
The White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvani, added that in addition to $ 1.38 billion of a bipartisan funding project, the administration would raise funds from other government agencies, including the Treasury and Defense Departments.
Democrats are expected to oppose Trump's emergency declaration as an unconstitutional attempt to fund the fence without congressional approval
