The White House said the United States will leave a "small peacekeeping group" of 200 US troops in Syria for a period of time after its withdrawal.
"A small peacekeeping group of about 200 will remain in Syria for a while," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a brief statement.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump agreed Thursday to implement a US military withdrawal from Syria in the light of common interests, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The two presidents also discussed the latest developments in Syria and agreed to support a political solution to the conflict, the agency said, adding that they also agreed to improve economic relations between Ankara and Washington.
