China's draft state budget for 2019 said the country's military spending this year was set to increase 7.5 percent to $ 177.6 billion.
Spokesman of the current session of the Supreme People's Assembly, Zhang Yisui, said that the growth of China's military spending seems reasonable and remains reasonable and can be justified by the need to ensure national security and reform of the armed forces.
"This increase is reasonable and acceptable, and remains necessary to ensure national security, safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, as well as the need to implement military reform in accordance with Chinese specificities," he said.
He stressed that his country posed no danger to other countries because it adheres to a purely peaceful foreign policy and military doctrine.
China spent $ 175 billion on armaments last year, up 8.1 percent from the previous year.
