President Barham Salih said on Monday that Iraq is lucky to have its Islamic side and its Arab reach.
"We hope to reach important agreements with Iran that will benefit the two peoples," President Saleh told a joint news conference with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rowhani after his arrival in Baghdad and his follow-up.
He added that Iraq will be an arena for convergence of interests and the reunification of the peoples of the region, praising "the understanding of the countries of the region to the importance of stability of Iraq."
In turn, his Iranian counterpart said that "our relationship with Iraq is historic and must be strengthened," adding that "there are broad areas of joint cooperation between the two countries in the areas of energy, tourism, investment and industrial zone."
"Iraq is an important country in the region and we are concerned about its stability," Rowhani said.
