    Abu Dhabi has launched three strategic initiatives aimed at developing the tourism sector in the emirate and attracting local and foreign tourism investments to the Emirate as part of the Abu Dhabi Development Downturn Program "Tomorrow 21" to make Abu Dhabi one of the best places in the world for business, investment, living and work.
    The initiatives were announced at a press conference held by UAE Undersecretary of Culture and Tourism Saif Saeed Ghobash on Tuesday evening.
    The initiatives include reducing tourist and municipal fees on hotel facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, exempting long-stay visitors from the daily municipal fees, increasing investment in the emirate's tourism promotion campaigns, and highlighting Abu Dhabi's visitors' access to sophisticated infrastructure and tourist attractions.     Saving AED 1 billion
    The initiative to reduce tourism and municipal fees will contribute 1 billion dirhams ($ 272.4 million) to hoteliers over the next three years.
    The first initiative is to reduce tourist and municipal fees on hotel establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from 10% to 5.5%. Tourism fees fall from 6% to 3.5% and municipality fees from 4% to 2%, in a move aimed at improving the quality of the tourism product Luxury hotel.
    The initiative also includes reducing the municipal fees for each hotel room from 15 dirham to 10 dirhams (2.7 dollars) per night. The department also changed the schedule for collection of fees to complete this process semi-annually instead of collecting monthly in order to support investment and attracting more investors. The initiative to cancel the municipal and tourist fees on tourist tickets available for sale at hotels.
    The second initiative includes exempting long-stay visitors from the daily municipal fees. This process involves coordination with the concerned authorities to exempt guests who stay in hotels for 30 consecutive nights or more of municipal fees to encourage guests to extend their stay.
    Promotional investments
    The third initiative is to raise the promotional investments of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi by up to AED 500 million over the next three years to raise awareness about the tourism product offered by the emirate in the major tourist exporting markets to increase tourism demand in Abu Dhabi. The current year and 25% next year and 35% during the year 2021.
    In 2018, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi received more than 10 million visitors from around the world with a growth rate of 3.9% in the number of hotel guests in the emirate compared to 2017.
    Saif Saeed Ghobash said that the initiatives will contribute to enhancing Abu Dhabi's position as a global tourist, cultural and leisure destination, as well as supporting the competitiveness of the business environment and the development of private sector institutions, including small and medium enterprises.
    He added that the Department of Culture and Tourism started implementing and circulating the decisions at the sector level, pointing out that this step will contribute to attract tourism investments to the Emirate at the local, regional and global levels.
    Ghabash explained that these incentive packages encourage increased investment in the tourism sector, which contributes significantly to support the national economy.
