New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardenne announced that the main culprit in the Christchurch mosque attack had planned to carry out further attacks before his arrest.
"The culprit was a backpacker and he had two other firearms in his car, which he had taken to the scene of the attack, and certainly he intended to continue his attack," Ardiren told reporters.
"The defendant traveled intermittently to New Zealand and stayed there for various periods, and I can not describe him as a resident for a long time," she said, noting that she was not on watch lists either in her own country or in Australia.
She pointed out that the laws on the possession of weapons in the country will be amended, noting that among the victims are nationals of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Malaysia.
