The parliamentary services committee on Tuesday proposed segregating the maritime division of the Basra Oil Company under the Ministry of Oil and linking it with the General Ports Company of the Ministry of Transport without prejudice to the salaries and allowances of the employees.

The head of the committee, Kazem Vajan al-Yamami said in an interview with Alsumaria News that "the proposal we have submitted to separate the maritime section of the Basra Oil Company, and linking it with the General Company of Ports, marine services should be limited to ports according to the provisions of Law No. (21) of 1995.

"The proposal will be subject to a vote of merging and re-linking all boats, ships, vehicles and crews, without any adverse effects on staff grades, salaries, allowances and other entitlements."

Al-Hamami pointed out that "the proposal comes in line with the state's tendency towards limiting the functional competencies, in light of the policy of rationalization, rationing and job description approved by the state in its budget law for this year."

It is worth mentioning that the Basra Oil Company has a marine affairs department that owns many marine parts and navigational crews of sailors, technicians, marine officers and engineers. The most important tasks of the department are managing the navigational effort of oil export operations through oil ports and platforms located within the Iraqi territorial waters in the northern Gulf.
