The Sadayoun bloc, affiliated to the Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement, on Sunday suspended popular calls for a military coup in Iraq to change the country's governance, as happened recently in Sudan and Algeria.

"Since 1958, all the regimes that ruled Iraq have come from military coups, pushed by the West like the coup of Abdul Karim Qasim, the Baathist coup or even the fall of the Saddam regime," MP Abdul Amir al-Dabbi told twilight news.

"The system now exists democratically by electing the people, and there is no need for military coups in Iraq. If it exists, it will be paid by the US and directed by the United States, and we rule out this," he said.

He pointed out that "things are going well since the accession of Adel Abdul Mahdi, the Iraqi government, and his government program is going on very well and the portfolios will be completed in the coming days."
