The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Iraqi parliament, the abolition of a list of the names of ambassadors of Baghdad prepared by the previous government.
"The committee hosted Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim on the subject of the list of new ambassadors and the controls adopted by the ministry to select ambassadors," member of the committee MP Amer al-Fayez said in a statement to a number of media. "The committee hosted the list of the 28 controversial ambassadors from the previous government, The Presidency of the current parliament decided to bring it back because this list was not voted on by either the Committee on Foreign Relations and Foreign Affairs or by the House of Representatives. "
He added that "the programs of the new government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi and its standards differ from the previous government policy and programs, and even controls the selection and nomination of ambassadors are different from the former as well as the ministry has controls and criteria for the nomination of ambassadors and then returned the list to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which subjected the list of 28 ambassadors within the approved controls, Indicating that "the candidate who applies the controls of the ministry will be adopted within the new list and does not apply is excluded, and then send the new list to the House of Representatives for a vote."
He explained that "the foreign civil service law provides that the selection of ambassadors by 75% of the inside of the diplomatic corps and 25% of the candidates of the political blocs," noting that "the Foreign Minister informed the Committee of the readiness of the ministry to grant 50% of candidates for blocs, compared to 50% of representatives of the diplomatic corps "He said.
He added that "some of the members of the Committee suggested that the nomination of 100% of the ministry members of the diplomatic corps, because the selection of ambassadors is a professional issue of the representation of the country, not the component or the political party and the Ministry is the best to choose according to its standards and professional controls, and then send the list to the Council The deputies to vote for later, "noting that" this proposal needs to vote on the Council of Ministers to amend the Foreign Service Law, which provides that the Council of Ministers can decide to amend the ratio or add a new percentage. "
He explained that "in the absence of the approval of the political blocs, the Council of Ministers is committed to the law and nominate 25% of the representatives of the blocks and 75% of the diplomatic corps under the law, or as promised by the Minister of Foreign Affairs that the nomination by 50% is equal, but the final result all candidates will be subject to the controls and standards that Approved by the ministry for the selection of ambassadors.
