The US-led international coalition on Saturday announced the death of one of its members in an incident he said was not a combatant in the northern province of Nineveh.

The International Alliance said in a statement that a member of the US service died on Saturday in a non-combat in the province of Nineveh. The exact cause of death was not specified.

His identity was only announced after his family was informed.

The United States maintains a force of about 5,000 military personnel who provide advice and support to Iraqi forces to combat the remnants of an uprisings.

Some soldiers are stationed at the Qayara base in southern Mosul.
