(Reuters) - Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi told parliamentary political coalitions that his government had summoned US Charge d'Affaires Joe Hood and handed him a protest note over threats he made to impose sanctions on Iraq if he violated US sanctions against Iran, a source in the prime minister's office said.

The source quoted Abdul-Mahdi as saying to the leaders of the parliamentary blocs that the reason for not being able to call "Hood" and handing over a memorandum and protest against his threats is due to Baghdad got some exceptions in the sanctions imposed on Iran, especially in the subjects of gas and electricity.

The source also said, according to the newspaper "Okaz" Saudi Arabia, issued today, that the political blocs in the Iraqi parliament continue to pressure the prime minister on the subject of interventions of charge d'affaires the US Embassy, and demands the measures to stop these interventions.

The source added that the blocks considered what the American diplomat is doing is a new method of blackmail and pressure on the legislative and executive authorities to prevent any parliamentary legislation that would legalize the US military presence in Iraq.
