Samson:  Oil hits its highest level in 2019 after the termination of US sanctions exemptions to Iran

    23rd April, 2019

Oil prices hit their highest levels in 2019 after Washington announced it would end all exemptions granted in Iranian sanctions by the end of May to press importers to stop buying from Tehran

Despite the Washington move, analysts said global oil markets would be able to cope with Iran's hurdles given the availability of sufficient spare capacity from other suppliers
Brent crude futures were $ 74.58 a barrel, up 0.7 percent from their latest closing, their highest level since November 2018

US crude oil futures were the strongest since October 2018 at $ 65.10 a barrel, up 0.8 percent from a previous settlement

The United States on Monday demanded that Iranian oil buyers halt imports by May 1 or face sanctions, ending six-month exemptions that allowed the top eight buyers from Iran, mostly in Asia, to continue to import limited quantities

Before sanctions were reinstated last year, Iran was the fourth largest producer of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) at around 3 million bpd, but April's exports shrank to less than 1 million barrels a day, according to Reventiv data   LINK

Samson:   Al-Issawi confirms that Saudi Arabia has entered Iraq strongly to contribute to reconstruction and reconstruction

    23rd April, 2019

MP Faleh al-Issawi said on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia has entered Iraq strongly to contribute to its reconstruction and stability and support its sovereignty to curb foreign interference.

"Iraq has suffered a lot from the Iranian presence, which has brought him only a lot of economic, political and security problems, and what has happened during the previous years is the best evidence of that," Al-Issawi said. "The return of Iraq to the Arab embrace means returning to taking the initiative in keeping Regional and international stability".

    Jjimmyjj:   WOWZA!

I might have had a bit of a hangdog look this morning after first waking up, but after reading this my ears are perked up, and I'm wide-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Saudi Arabia teased this development a couple of weeks ago, Frank and teams have talked about it expansively (especially last night. Thanks, Frank!), and now IRAQ is confirming it:

Iraq is kicking Iran out of the treehouse, and Saudi Arabia is Iraq's new BFF!!

In my opinion, this is a huge development for the future of Iraq. Instead of being tied at the hip with the outlaw state of Iran (who are Shia like them), they have made a huge decision to unite with the Sunni Saudi's. This is monumental.

This is not only words, but ACTIONS to show they are desirous to join the world economy in a big way, and to become a valued member of the western economy. I'm sure they have been promised many rewards for making this step.

Incidentally, kudos to the US for being wise enough to push SA to take the place of Iran. It is one thing to tell Iraq to get rid of Iranian influence, but having someone waiting in the wings to fill the vacuum (and who aren't interested in sending death squads to their country and taking over their government through proxies) is quite another.   This is getting good, kids!

Rommy:  And as a refresher, what was the first country President Trump visited?
That's correct, Saudi Arabia on May 20–22, 2017.  (very interesting list)  Who's coins has the CBI put on display?

Edwwww:  He also sent Jared Kushner to Iraq on inaugaration day also

Samson:  Abdul Mahdi will visit Berlin, Paris and then Washington next week to discuss Iran's sanctions

    23rd April, 2019

The strategic expert, Al-Hashemi, Tuesday, expressed the intention of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to visit Germany, France and America next week, indicating that Abdul-Mahdi will discuss in Washington to exclude Iraq from the import of Iranian gas in the coming period.

"Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi plans to visit Germany, France and the United States next week to discuss the development of relations and the war on terror," al-Hashemi told the news agency.

"The prime minister will discuss with the US administration the extension of Iraq's exemption from sanctions against Iran for several months to import gas for the operation of power plants in Iraq," he said.

"The region is in a new crisis with increasing US sanctions against Iran and Tehran and Iraq are taking more serious positions to resolve crises without harming their interests," he said.  LINK

Samson:  Washington's recent decision to push the Iranian riyal to the abyss

    23rd April, 2019

The Iranian currency depreciated against the dollar after Washington announced tougher restrictions on Iranian oil exports and said it would not grant ex-Iranian buyers a concession after May.

The data on the site 'Bunbast', which monitors the movement of the Iranian currency against foreign currencies in the parallel market, the exchange rate of the dollar amounted to Monday 140,500 Iranian riyals (Tuman = 10 riyals), an increase of 2.5% from Sunday.

For comparison, the dollar was sold at the beginning of this year in the parallel market for 112000 riyals, meaning that the US currency rose since the beginning of 2019 until yesterday, 28,500 riyals.

The drop came after the United States announced on Monday it would end all exemptions from sanctions on Iran in May that allow eight countries to buy Iranian oil without falling under US sanctions.   LINK
