Reports: North Korean leader executes four officials after Trump summit
The failure of the recent summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong and US President Donald Trump prompted Kim to execute four officials from his foreign ministry, according to media reports.
According to Japanese and South Korean reports carried by the English Mirror newspaper, a death squad killed officials in Pyongyang earlier this month after the Kim and Trump talks in Vietnam ended without agreement.
The rumors were spread through the secret state after talking to a trade official who recently visited North Korea and a source inside the isolated state, a Japanese news agency reported.
According to reports, North Korea accused the four officials of selling the information to the United States before the Hanoi summit, causing its failure.
The four reportedly shot dead are said to be diplomats from the North Korean embassy in Hanoi.
However, the Asia Press Agency, which published the information along with the South Korean media, said the allegations of executions had not been verified.
The veracity of these reports is very difficult given the enormous opacity of North Korea and the state's control of the media.
