The new Emperor of Japan ascends the throne and pledges to stand by the people

The new Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, ascended the throne at an official ceremony on Wednesday, the day after his father abdicated. In his first speech after sitting on the throne, the new emperor vowed to stand by the people.
Naruhito officially became the 126th Emperor of Japan from midnight on Tuesday-Wednesday, but during the brief ceremony which lasted only six minutes, he received the emblems of the Holy Empire, which formalizes his status as emperor, sword, mirror and jewel.
The new Emperor arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on a black car, waving his hand to the small crowd of citizens gathered to greet him along the way.
"I pledge to act in accordance with the Constitution and to perform my duties as a symbol of the State and the unity of the people, to always think of the people and always stand by them," said Emperor Naruhito. Ending / 25
