(Reuters) - Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced on Tuesday three phone calls with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, during which he discussed Iraq's role in averting the danger facing the region.
"Three phone calls were made with Pompeo before his visit to Iraq to discuss the region's files and Iraq's role in averting the threat," Abdul Mahdi said at his weekly press conference. "The Iranian-American dispute is a complicated one and we are making great efforts to find a way out of the crisis."
"We will discuss security and economic issues during the visit," Abdul Mahdi said. "The issue of water is important in Turkey's visit and we are both serious about resolving this issue."
On the internal situation in Iraq, Abdul Mahdi said, "The dams and waterways have been controlled and the water reserves, which now amount to about 53 billion cubic meters, will rise."
He noted that "so far has been handed over more than 600 thousand tons of wheat and pay about 200 billion dinars of dues of farmers," noting that the Council of Ministers voted today on a project that provides 140 megawatts of energy to strengthen Basra's share of electricity.
