BAGHDAD (AFP) - Former Deputy Prime Minister Bahaa al-Araji expressed his regret over the absence of the official Iraqi position on the Iranian-American tension.
"The US-Iranian escalation has reached an advanced stage and we are living in a state of war which will be ignited sooner or later," Araji said in a statement received by the Al-Furat News agency.
He added that "some countries in the region, especially Israel is pushing for the war in an attempt to weaken the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region," noting that "Iraq was unfortunately not a clear official position, although it is the biggest affected by the fires of war and its consequences at all levels, Parties and political blocs ".
Al-Araji pointed out that "everyone should reject this war and stand with the government in order to form an official position rejecting the war and authorizing it to play an adequate role to avoid it." He added that "we have more participants with the Islamic Republic of Iran and points of convergence than we have of disagreement. "Everyone should not forget their position with Iraq in its ordeal by war on a preacher."
