Washington renews its call for dialogue .. Tehran responds with a "new condition"
at the time when Washington reiterated its willingness to enter into negotiations with Tehran, the latter came out with new statements imposing more conditions, although it is in dire need of the negotiations.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that "the possibility exists for meetings between US and Iranian officials at the highest level if Iran is serious about the demands made by Washington," similar to the meetings that brought together the US president and the North Korean leader.
In a radio interview in Switzerland, Pompeiro said that Washington has presented a series of demands for Iran: to stop Iran's nuclear weapons programs, stop building its own missile systems, and stop its terrorist attacks around the world, which have led to the displacement of millions of people and the killing of hundreds of thousands.
"When the Iranians are ready for serious talks about their possibility of acting as a normal nation, the United States is ready to hold these talks at any level."
The US Secretary of State reiterated that his country "does not want war and will continue to deter Iran from attacking American interests throughout the Middle East."
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif criticized US sanctions against Iran as an "economic war" and said that "talks with the United States can not be held before the lifting of restrictions."
In a tweet on Twitter, Zarif said the US president was waging an economic war on Iran. "The war and the talks are not being fought, either on condition or without."
Zarif posted on the social platform a photograph of a woman who says her son's artificial leg "is subject to sanctions."
"Economic terrorism against Iran targets innocent civilians, such as this little boy, whose sad mother can not get artificial legs for him as he grows up, they are subject to sanctions," the Iranian foreign minister wrote.
Iran has received the renewed American call for dialogue, imposing conditions, as the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas al-Moussawi said that his country requires that "America change its behavior significantly" to agree to negotiate with them.
