[size=18]US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker told parliament speaker Mohammed Halaboussi on Wednesday that his country is keen to support Iraq and its independence, expressing US willingness to increase cooperation with Iraq in all fields.


"The Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohammed Al Halbusi received Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker, accompanied by the US ambassador to Baghdad, Matthew Toler," the office said in a statement.






He added that the meeting discussed the political developments in the country and the success of the parliament to complete the cabinet cabin and vote on it. He also discussed the political situation in the region, stressing the independence and integrity of Iraq, its territorial integrity and its leading role in the region to reduce tension and escalation and establish balanced relations with its Arab, . 

He pointed out that "the meeting discussed the importance of activating investment and economic cooperation between the two countries and in several areas, including energy and electricity, which contributes to the provision of services and job opportunities for citizens."


"His country is keen to support Iraq and its independence to be a safe and able country to fulfill its responsibilities towards its people," Shinker said, expressing "full readiness to increase cooperation in all economic, development and security fields."
