Light News / Arab and international
foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany agreed to "work together in order to ensure maritime security of the Strait of Hormuz."
This came in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the three countries published on the website of the British Foreign Office late on Sunday evening.
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt also agreed with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Laudrian and German Haikou Mas that the safe movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz is a top priority for European countries and that any possible escalation in the region should be avoided. "He said.
On Friday evening, Britain announced Iran's detention of its oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz for "non-observance of international maritime laws."
The detention of the oil tanker came hours after a court in Gibraltar announced the extension of the detention of an Iranian oil tanker for 30 days, two weeks after it was caught in an operation involving the British Royal Navy on suspicion that it was heading to Syria to deliver a load of oil in violation of US and European sanctions.
