(Baghdad: Euphrates News) Deputy for the bloc Saeron, Alaa al-Rubaie, that the commander of the armed forces Adel Abdul Mahdi to the need to reduce the presence of bases and military training centers within the cities and launch a campaign to follow-up and inspection of residential areas.
This came after an explosion of ammunition at Al-Saqr base in Al-Rasheed and its neighboring areas, and Al-Rubaie said in a statement: "The danger of continuing the presence of camps and piles in cities and residential areas and threatening the security of citizens and their lives."
Al-Rubaie stressed "the need to follow up this file and be informed by the Directorate of Civil Defense and how he chose the place and the safety of storage from the explosion and not to be known and known to the general public so as to avoid aggression and preserve the safety of society."
A large fire broke out on Monday evening in a weapons depot run by a Popular Mobilization faction, causing explosions heard in parts of Baghdad, killing one person and wounding 29 others.
The warehouse is located inside a federal police headquarters near Alwa al-Rashid, south of Baghdad, and includes short-range missiles and Katyusha rockets that were in the warehouse.
The fire triggered some rockets that landed in neighborhoods kilometers away in the nearby Abu Dshir area, wounding 14 people, mostly children, and Health Ministry spokesman Saif Badr said most of the wounded had been discharged from hospitals in the area with minor injuries.
A police source pointed out that the fire may have occurred due to negligence leading to poor storage conditions and high temperatures, and ordered the Interior Ministry to open an investigation.
