Economic expert Abdul Rahman al-Mashhadani blamed the federal government for poor domestic product support.
"The government action to protect the domestic product is very weak in the government and private sectors, and even the recent laws that have been done, such as the customs tariff law and the protection of the domestic product, there is no mechanism to have a clear impact on the Iraqi market," Mashhadani said.
He added that "the private sector suffers from problems, one of which is high production costs.
Al-Mashhadani said: "The government procedures are complicated and hindered in this matter, which is supposed to provide support for the local product and intervention, especially the subject of advances from banks, which until this moment only gives high and non-concessional benefits."
He pointed out that "should apply government laws on the protection of domestic product and prevent the corresponding goods," noting that "neighboring countries and perhaps beyond neighboring countries and all countries that have an economic share in Iraq is seeking to destroy the domestic product in order to preserve their goods."
