The head of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Halbousi, decided to lift the immunity of one of the deputies at the request of the Supreme Judicial Council, because of corruption charges against him.
According to a document seen by the Euphrates News, Halbousi agreed to lift the immunity from the decision-making coalition MP Talal al-Zobaie at the request of the judiciary "due to the many complaints received by us on corruption charges against him during his tenure as chairman of the former parliamentary integrity committee."
Al-Halbousi called on the Supreme Judicial Council to take the necessary measures against Zobaie and call the complainants to review the courts.
In July, the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, called on the Iraqi parliament to lift the immunity of its members "accused of corruption cases" while they are executing 21 executive deputies.
