Iranian oil tanker Adrian Daria, formerly known as Grace 1, has diverted to a port in Turkey, the Associated Press reported Saturday.
The ship, which sails in the Mediterranean and wants to seize the US was heading towards Greece, but the Greek prime minister said it was not destined for his country.
An official has warned that the United States will act against anyone who helps the tanker directly or indirectly.
"All parties in the shipping sector should act with care to ensure that the parties subject to sanctions or the shipment subject to sanctions are not dealt directly or indirectly," the official, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.
The tanker was released after being held for about five weeks off Gibraltar on suspicion of violating European sanctions by transporting a shipment of Iranian oil to Syria.
Immediately after the tanker was released, a US federal court ordered it to be confiscated for various reasons, but the authorities in Gibraltar refused.
Tehran said any US move to seize the ship again would have "serious consequences."
