The US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, announced that the peace plan known as the 'deal of the century' will be announced before the end of 2019.
`` I am very confident that it will be announced in 2019.I don't want to say in a week or a month, but we are very close to the finish line, '' Friedman said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said before the last election that US President Donald Trump's peace plan would be published within days.
"We want to publish it in an environment where any government can interact with the plan. We want to deal with an existing government so that it is in a position to interact, respond and talk to us about it," Friedman told the paper.
Asked why the US administration had developed such a plan in the light of the previous Palestinian rejection, Friedman said: "I am not pessimistic about the Palestinian reaction even though we are prepared for that possibility. ".
Responding to calls by some for the plan to be published now in anticipation of Trump's re-election, Friedman said: "We at the Trump administration are not focusing at this stage on delivering anything prematurely because we still have a lot of time."
