[size=18]Israeli Minister of Education Rafi Peretz confirmed that the government plans to appoint an inspector of Islamic religion in Arab schools in the near future.

The confirmation came in response to a letter addressed to the Israeli Ministry of Education, Mansour Abbas, a member of the Knesset from the Joint Arab List Alliance, and the head of the United Arab List.

Peretz said in response to Abbas's letter that "Islam is a central and very important subject in Arab schools," noting that "schools are obliged to teach him two weekly classes per student.

The Israeli minister of education said his ministry "will deal with these irregularities strongly and without compromise."

On the fact that some teachers who are not specialized in the subject of Islamic religion teach in some schools, Peretz stressed that "this practice is known to the ministry and it is one of the challenges facing the work of the ministry these days to treat it fundamentally and in-depth."
