BAGHDAD: A security expert has warned of "significant risks" facing the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Hisham al-Hashemi said in a press statement that "ISIS, with the help of tribesmen from both sides of the Iraqi-Syrian border, had already broken the border and lifted the barriers in 2014."
"What's more, the conflict between regular forces and border economic groups has, in many cases, become the focus of national, religious and tribal crises."
He continued that "with such data, the Iraqi-Syrian border may face great risks because of the situation on the Syrian side uncontrolled," noting that "the danger that ISIS detachments are preparing in the Badia, Jazira and western Nineveh areas since Ramadan 2019 lies in the transformation of terrorist operations from Boundary lines into battles on border areas and villages, to secure the infiltration of some of that number into the Iraqi depth.
