    BAGHDAD -
    Iraq has lost its membership in the UN Human Rights Council, MP Mohammed al-Karbouli said on Thursday.
    Karbouli said in a tweet on Twitter (Mawazine News) a copy of it, "in the interest of those who lose Iraq membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council ??".
    He added: "Did the government take into consideration the opinion of the international community when it narrowed the freedom of opinion and chased the media and arrested activists and assassinated their free speech."

    BAGHDAD - Fourteen countries on Thursday joined the UN Human Rights Council after Iraq lost its membership as a candidate for the Asia-Pacific region at the UN Human Rights Council.
    The newspaper "Washington Post", that Iraq lost in the Asian Group competition for four seats to Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and the Marshall Islands.
    Iraq received only 121 votes, behind Indonesia, 174, Japan and the Republic of Korea with 165 and the Marshall Islands 123.
    The vacant seats for the Asian group were four and the number of applicants was five.
    The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced the selection of Iraq as vice-president of the UN Human Rights Council in December 2019.

    The source said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "Iraq lost its membership in the Human Rights Council during the elections held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York."
