China has called on the US military to stop flexing its muscles in the South China Sea and to avoid adding "more ambiguity" over Taiwan, underlining tensions between the world's two largest economies.
Defense Minister Wei Fenghe urged his US counterpart Mark Esper during defense talks in Bangkok on Monday to "stop flexing muscles in the South China Sea and not provoke and escalate tensions," a defense ministry spokesman said.
The United States did not respond, but accused China of "militarizing" the South China Sea.
Isber said on Sunday that Beijing was "increasingly resorting to oppression and intimidation to further its strategic objectives" in the region.
